Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on enabling people to engage in everyday activities. Some children have difficulty participating in their daily activities due to motor, sensory, attentional, regulatory or cognitive barriers. Pediatric OT’s focus specifically on improving children’s functioning and independence in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.
A referral is not necessary. However, if you are concerned with your child’s development, your child’s general practitioner or pediatrician is a good place to start.
Active Pediatrics does not direct bill or submit claims to insurance providers. A receipt will be provided following payment if you would like to submit the service to your private insurance.
Active Pediatrics provides assessment and treatment to children and youth from the age of 1 to 18.
The initial evaluation will last approximately 1.5-2 hours. It will include an initial intake phone call with a parent or guardian. The in-person evaluation includes standardized assessment, non-standardized assessment, and observation through play. It will also include 30-minute phone conversation to review results and treatment recommendations.
It is best to keep it simple. Some families like to describe it as play or exercise. Keep it positive and encouraging to reduce any stress your child may feel with having a new person enter their environment.
Before your child’s assessment, you will be given a series of documents to complete. All required items will be supplied during the assessment. Please make sure your child is dressed comfortably.
Your Occupational Therapist will provide you with the results from the initial assessment, as well as treatment recommendations. The number of treatment sessions recommended varies based on individual treatment goals.
Not at this time. Active Pediatrics completes assessment and treatment sessions with children in their homes or another location in the community.
